Tunnels and Underground Cities:
Engineering and Innovation meet Archaeology, Architecture and Art
Don’t miss the memorable event of the World Tunnel Congress 2019 which will be held in Naples from May 3rd to May 9th at the famous “Mostra D’Oltremare”.
Combining a unique location and a great city that is fully representative of the “Italian lifestyle”, with archeology, architecture, art, touristic attractions and, of course, tunnelling. Not to mention, important underground works built recently in a unique and complex geology, giving impressive examples of how important and attractive underground works were built. As an example, the Toledo Station on the Subway Line 1, received the 2015 ITA award for “Innovative Use of Underground Space”. It is a unique example of a decentralized museum, offering dynamic fruition of artists’ creations, with an opportunity for citizens to travel an open artistic route.
Within the frame of WTC 2019, our technical director Vittorio Manassero is topic coordinator for “Ground Improvement in Underground Construction” and will chair the session “Grouting and Ground Improvement” on Monday 6th at Ischia room from 15.40 to 17.20. Furthermore, in the same afternoon and in the same room, at 14.20, Mr. Manassero will give a lecture entitled “Monitoring Artificial Ground Freezing and relevant fundamental observations”. The lecture will deal with some fundamental observations gathered by the author from monitoring a large number of Artificial Ground Freezing jobsites, at first as technical director at specialized geotechnical contractors of primary importance and then as independent expert advisor at Underground Consulting.
Furthermore, always within the frame of the same congress, two further papers with Mr. Manassero as co-author will be published on the Proceedings. The first is entitled "Rock grouting and ground freezing for tunnelling at Duomo subway station in Naples", its authors are V. Manassero, F. Cavuoto e A. Corbo and it will be presented within the Poster session. The second is entitled "Urban tunnelling under archaeological findings in Naples (Italy)", its authors are F. Cavuoto, V. Manassero, G. Russo e A. Corbo and it will be orally presented by Mr. Filippo Cavuoto, within the session Archaeology, Architecture and Art in Underground Construction, Wednesday 8 May at the Auditorium Teatro Mediterraneo.
